ABV means alcohol by volume and indicates what percentage of the beer is alcohol. IBU stands for International Bitterness Units and measures bittering compounds. A higher IBU does not always mean a beer will taste more bitter, because malt sweetness, alcohol, water chemistry and other factors influence perceived bitterness. Check both figures when choosing a beer, particularly a stronger limited release.
